Because men fear the darkness and the unpleasantness that accompanies it but still desire to understand it. The Apostate is depicted with his hands positioned in a sacred form, fueling his spell with his life-giving blood. This vision prompts if dwelling in darkness is a means to truly understand the living. If the answer is yes and you are unafraid to take the leap, he is willing to share his dark knowledge.
